Now The Black List For Aspiring Filmmakers

Deadline doesn't post anonymous lists. But it turns out there's?sort-of?The Black List?for "aspiring" filmmakers (I?árritu?),?put together by Patrick Chu of Montecito Picture Company and Aaron Schmidt of Langley Park Pictures, and conceived by Jeff Schroeder, a WME assistant.?dubbed "Viewfinder",?it?polled studio execs, producers, and assistants for their picks for the top 10 short films, commercials and/or music videos in 2010. The results were tallied, and all the videos are embedded on the website for everyone to view. Here's their explanation: "Aspiring filmmakers need their venue. They need their list. Our hope was that you would share your love and admiration for filmmakers with us and the rest of the business by submitting your picks for the top commercials, shorts and/or music videos of 2010. And you did. The videos on this page represent your contributions to our list. We see this list as a valuable resource to expose lesser known directors and content to the industry. As it happens, the Black List originator, film executive Franklin Leonard reached out to this trio?when they were developing their list, and met with them, and?gave them "really good advice" based on his experiences with his list. Schroeder tells me: "We had a really strong response and there's been a lot of traffic to the site already":
